Christmas Countdown 2018 - Day 10, Galway Plate Day by @robbiecoombes1

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has gotten involved with this Christmas countdown, I had hoped it would bring the Naps League community together at a time of year that is all about spending time with people. Thank you to the guys behind the scenes, Gary, Mic, Simon and Howard for everything they do to bring this all together, you are the stars of the show! Also, as the countdown comes to an end, it seems there is nothing left for me to say except for Merry Christmas! Thanks for all the support this year and I hope you have a brilliant festive season and 2019.

Our final piece of the Christmas Countdown takes us to Galway as Robbie pretty much sums up everything there is to love about racing - good racing, good friends and good times. Thank you so much for sending this over, Robbie, and Merry Christmas! Enjoy:

Well it's that time of year again, it's time for all the lads to gather up & head to the Galway races 2018 for the Galway Plate, the build up to these races for my pals & I are just unreal. We meet at the local pub at 6 in the morning & have our usual liquid brekkie, if you know what I mean, while waiting on our bus to arrive to bring us from Dublin to Galway.
With our Racing Post in tow it's time to start studying form on the journey, that's if you get a minute to look at it as the lads are all buzzing. After a good journey we arrive at the beautiful Ballybrit Racecourse,Galway & into the Main Stand we go, like a kid on Christmas morning we're bursting with excitement of trying to pick the 1st winner or the holy grail, the Plate winner. Will it be the man himself, Willie Mullins or will it be the Gigginstown colours of the Gordon Elliot trained horses that win the huge pot on offer for the plate winner. The build up is great as the hustling by the on course bookies gathers pace, which bookie is offering best price on your horse. I eventually choose my horse which is Patrick's Park, which goes off at 9/2 fav.
The flag is raised and they're off! With great anticipation I'm watching my horse who is going well but it's the Gigginstown Colours carried by Mark Enright on Clarcam that scoots clear. "I backed him", shouts a couple of the lads, he's 33/1, at the top of the hill Clarcam goes clear & wins. Enright wins it but he had a willing partner in Clarcam, a former dual Grade One winner, who'd looked a light of former days until dominating one of the most competitive fields of the year in style. Patricks Park finishes 2nd a good 6 lengths behind the winner. What a great race & just my luck as I pick the 2nd horse.
What a day & what a course. The craic does be ninety, that's it for another year for us,Galway 2019 get ready, we'll be back!
