Christmas Countdown 2018 - Day 4, The King George VI Chase Preview by @Knocknamona

On day 4 of our Christmas Countdown our very own @Knocknamona has very kindly written a poem to preview the ultimate Christmas clash that is just over one week away - the King George VI Chase!

The King George VI Chase by @Knocknamona

I am waiting patiently
for Boxing Day
who is going
and who will stay
at Kempton Park
The King George V1 Chase
a grade 1 three miles
national hunt race.
This is a race
for simply the best
it will put their jumping
to the test.
There won't be time
for tea for two
if you want to see
what these horses can do
whatever you are doing
stop and watch
there is no denying
they are all top notch.
A return of champions
because some come back
a previous winner
like Thistlecrack
in 2016 it did not look hard
when by three and a quarter lengths
he beat the champion Cue Card
and although he is older
he is still only ten
will his win be an if
or his win be a when?
I am waiting patiently
and all of a quiver
to see wonderful athletes
like Native River
a Cheltenham winner
he put up a fight
staying on strongly
to beat Might Bite
he can stay the trip
will it be his day
or will he be beaten
by Bristol De Mai?
Bristol De Mai
you could say...that he may
he may be the winner
it may be his day.
I am not going may
but I am going might
because the winner of this race
may be Might Bite
he won this last year
without a kerfuffle
by one length
to beat Double Shuffle
there's one thing sure
about this horse
he certainly likes
the Kempton course
he doesn't mind the ground
soft or good
he really might
in fact, he should
there's nothing to chew over
because he's in my sight
The King George V1 Chase
must go to Might Bite.
