Why you should not make a bad betting day worse – Chasing Losses By Daryl Carter ‏@DarylCarter7

Had a tough day on the horses? Well, you are not alone, thousands of people are in the same boat every single day but it is those that can separate the need to chase their losses from those that can accept it has just been a bad day at the office.

I mean why make a bad day worse? Because just one more winner may lead to another to clear that deficit?

We are all guilty of chasing the odd loss or two but it is being able to learn from those mistakes that can make you a better punter. Face it, we are all going to have bad day's, it is inevitable.

Rarely has chasing loses ever paid off, like most people I have been lucky to break even on the odd occasion but very rarely accumulate any profit when trying to claw back some of my loses.

I mean when a day is going badly it's going badly right?

Even then, many people I speak to always seem to feel breaking even isn't quite enough and the temptation for one more winner being difficult to submerge.

Learning the discipline of being able to shut the laptop and walk away when things have just not been going your way comes with plenty of agonising experience, but if you are able to learn such a trait it can be far more rewarding in the long run.

Being able to accept that you have been "unlucky" or simply have just fallen victim to the unforeseen change in the weather forecast or even a jockeys error is tough for many regular punters's and the previous days or weeks money is likely to find itself back into the bookies pocket's if you are not careful.

Chasing those well re-searched loses will ultimately come at a price. It will force you to change the method that has worked so well for you previously. It may cause you to have argument's with your partner or spouse, friends or family (always have a betting account that is no relation to your joint/personal money). It will also make you feel like your bad run is never-ending.

The key is to understand and expect bad runs in horse racing, it is part and parcel of the game unfortunately otherwise we would all be quitting our jobs and living the high life. Take a step back for a moment and ask yourself is this bet because I think it will win or because I need a win?

It can be difficult, especially if you feel you are seeing many others on Twitter boasting about their wins after your poor day. But just remember you always see peoples winning bets but NEVER see the losing ones and I can guarantee you they have been in the same position on more than one occasion. People will always seem to be "booming" winners when you hoping for them not to be and you will be subconsciously creating negative energy which will affect your decision making. Ever jumped on a tipster's tip because they are having a great day and you are not, just for it to lose? Your ability to make good decisions are affected due to your negative outlook and need for a win. It never ends well.

This is some extreme advice but also a way to ensure you are not chasing any loses and wasting your profit margin but if you want to avoid the temptation of chasing your loses then skim through each and every race card on the night before your betting day and place all of your bets. Stay away from any device in which you are able to place an additional bet from. I mean you have already looked through the race cards and chosen your best bets right? There should be no need to place another. This will allow you to maximise your profits on the day, return to your betting app after the last race of the day and withdraw your profits.

Some feature's in this article can sound extreme but recognising you're chasing your loses can reward in the long run. Keep your betting bank stronger for a day when you are on a good run. Most importantly having a bet on a horse should be fun, if it is not then that is the time to stop. As the famous saying goes, " When the fun stops, stop".
